This Privacy Policy explains how East West Kung Fu Schools collects, uses, and shares information when you visit our website at bokfudo.com, fill out a form, create a customer account, or make a purchase through our online store. It also explains the choices you have about your information.

This website is operated by East West Kung Fu Schools ("we", "us", or "our school"). We teach Bok Fu Do kung fu, tai chi, and self-defense at three schools in Contra Costa County, California:

This policy covers our website only. Information you give us in person, on paper enrollment forms, or through a signed waiver is handled under the enrollment agreement and school policies you receive at the school.
Information you give us through forms. Our website has two forms:
We collect only what you type into these fields. Both forms are protected by Google reCAPTCHA, which helps us block automated spam submissions. reCAPTCHA is described in Section 3.
Customer accounts. You may create a customer account through our online store. An account stores your name, email address, and, if you provide them, your phone number and shipping or billing address, along with your order history.
Purchases. Our online store sells training equipment, apparel, gift cards, introductory lesson packages, and seasonal camps. When you buy something, Shopify collects your name, email address, phone number, billing and shipping address, the items ordered, and your payment details. We never see or store your full card number; Shopify's payment processing partners handle it.
Information collected automatically. When you visit our site, Shopify and the tools in Section 3 automatically collect your IP address, approximate location derived from it, device type, operating system, browser type, pages viewed, time on site, referring site, and the date and time of your visit, partly through cookies and similar technologies.
Correspondence and testimonials. We keep records of phone and email contact, and the text of any testimonial you allow us to display.
Cookies are small text files stored in your browser. Similar technologies include pixels, tags, and local storage. Our website uses these tools today:
Advertising pixels and third-party analytics. We do not run Google Analytics, and we do not currently run advertising or retargeting pixels, such as Meta or Google Ads conversion tags, on our website. We may add them in the future to measure and improve our advertising. If we do, we will update this section and, where required by law, ask for your consent before they load.
How to control cookies. You can delete or block cookies through your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may stop parts of the site, such as the cart or account login, from working. You can unsubscribe from Klaviyo emails using the link in any email we send.
Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track. Some browsers can send a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal that tells websites you do not want your information sold or shared. Where the law requires it, we treat a GPC signal as an opt-out request for that browser. There is no common standard for the older "Do Not Track" signal, so our site does not respond to it.
The list of tools above reflects what our site runs as of the Effective Date. It may change. We will update this page when it does.

We do not sell your personal information for money. Some California regulators treat the use of third-party analytics and marketing cookies as a "sale" or "share" even when no money changes hands. Whether or not that applies to us, you may opt out using the methods in Section 7, and we honor a Global Privacy Control signal.
We share information in these situations:
Cross-context behavioral advertising. California law treats sending your information to a third party for advertising that follows you across websites as "sharing," even when no money changes hands. As of the Effective Date, we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Our analytics and email tools are used to measure our own site and message people who have contacted or bought from us. If we add advertising pixels, that may count as sharing under California law. We will update this section and Section 8 before doing so.
Our school teaches children, teens, and adults. Our website is written for parents, guardians, and adult students. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information online from a child under 13.
Parents and guardians handle enrollment for children. Enrollment forms, waivers, and emergency contact details for minors are collected at the school, not through this website. If you are a parent or guardian and you believe a child under 13 has submitted personal information through our website, email info@bokfudo.com and we will delete it.
We do not sell or share the personal information of anyone we know to be under 16.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under state privacy laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act. Some of these laws apply only to businesses above certain revenue or data-volume thresholds. We honor the requests below for every visitor regardless of whether a specific law requires us to.

No discrimination. We will not deny you service, charge a different price, or provide a different level of service because you exercised a privacy right.
How to submit a request. Email info@bokfudo.com with the subject line "Privacy Request", or call any school listed in Section 1. Tell us which right you are exercising and how to reach you.
Verification. To protect your information, we verify requests before acting on them. We will match the details you give us, such as your name, email address, and recent order or class activity, against our records. We may ask for more information if we cannot verify you. We will respond within 45 days and will tell you if we need more time.
Authorized agents. You may have someone submit a request on your behalf. We will ask for written proof that you gave them permission, and we may still confirm your identity directly with you.
Residents of other states with privacy laws may have similar rights. Use the same contact methods and we will apply the rights available to you.
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy, and then as long as the law requires or allows. As a general guide:

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information. Our website and store run on Shopify, which encrypts data in transit and handles payment information under industry payment security standards. Access to customer records is limited to staff who need it.
No website or system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee that information sent over the internet will never be intercepted. Use a strong, unique password for your account and tell us right away if you believe it has been accessed without your permission.
Our website links to sites we do not control, including the International Bok Fu Do Association at ibfda.org, social media platforms, and video hosting services. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their practices. Please review the privacy policy of any site you visit from ours.
We may update this policy as our website, tools, or legal requirements change. We will post the revised policy on this page and update the Effective Date. For significant changes we may also notify you by email or a notice on the site. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
