Mr. Cusack started studying martial arts in April of 1999. He quickly established himself by earning his instructor rank in 2001. Since then he has represented Richard Lee’s East West Teams in state, national, international, and world competitions. Mr. Cusack traveled to mainland China in 2002 to visit the Shaolin Monastery and various temples with Grandmaster Lee, Grandmaster Huang, Master Buckley, and many other representatives from East West schools and martial arts schools from the east coast.
Mr. Cusack represented the United States national lei tai team at the 1st TWKSF World Kuo Shu Tournament in Brazil, 2003. He has been a consistent participant at the International Kuo Shu Championships in Baltimore, MD. Mr. Cusack had a helpful spirit from the beginning and played a large role in the building of the San Ramon and Lafayette schools. Says Master Buckley, “Whenever the school is in need, he’s usually first in line to help.” Adds Master Futini, “He has a heart of gold.”
Some words from Mr. Cusack:
“My training at Richard Lee’s East West has been a really positive experience. I came into the school at 39 years old because I always wanted to study Kung Fu as a child but could never afford it. As my life progressed and I ended up buying a home in Alamo I walked into East West 13 years ago. Over those 13 years I have come to understand that this training is way more than just Kung Fu. The Mind, Body, and Spirit training that we do here has strengthened me as a human being. I have always been a helpful person, but after this training I have found that I can do more, way more, for people. I Multi Task at work and people are astounded by the results, and to me it is just a normal day. Grand Master Lee has chosen me to be one of his Disciples so I can be a part of this system for a long as I live. This is a great honor and it is also part of my giving nature that I can help new students understand in the same way that I was taught. I will be forever grateful.”
Mr. Cusack is a Project Manager for UCSF Medical Center. Says Cusack about his career, “At UCSF MC we treat the people that need help the most. It is really worthwhile career wise to see that your imprint is on the equipment that is used to save or better the lives of the people that need it the most. As Grandmaster Lee has taught the Instructors – If you find a career that you really like, you will never work a day in your life again.”
