"Time can't be managed…"

As the countdown clock to the nationals gets smaller and smaller, i know many of you are feeling the time crunch. There is so much to do in so little time! here is a writing from grandmaster lee to one of his students talking about managing our time. Enjoy!

“Time can’t be managed. But what can be managed are our activities and how we “spend” time. All the experts agree: managing our activities begins with planning. So by knowing what’s important for us – planning our work and working our plan – we become wise black belts.

Set priorities for your goals. a major part of successful living lies in the ability to put first things first. Indeed, the reason most major goals are not achieved is that we spend our time doing second things first. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done, and we have done those things which we ought not to have done.

Concentrating on the essentials, we will then be accomplishing the greatest possible results with the effort expended. The key to setting priorities, the order in which you must accomplish things, is to ask yourself, “what is my payoff in doing this activity? how does this fit in with my long-term objectives? is what i’m doing or about to do getting me closer to my objective as a black belt?”

The black belt master knows the importance of planning your work well then working you plan. if you don’t plan then the plan will be to fail.

Write down the most important things you have to do tomorrow. Now, number them in the order of their true importance. Then first thing tomorrow morning, start working on item number 1, and stay with it until completed. Then take item number 2 the same way. Then number 3, and so on. Don’t worry if you don’t complete everything on the schedule. At least you will have completed the most important projects before getting to the less important ones.

Truth is what it is. Truth is neither good nor bad, neither ugly nor beautiful. Truth is just what exists – it is reality. I think, the really successful black belt masters are realists. They are not trapped by false appearances. They see the world as it is.

What is, is: And what isn’t, isn’t. The truth simply is, that’s all. It doesn’t need reasons, it doesn’t have to be right, it’s just the truth. Period.

In closing, the black belts who will really succeed are the efficient few. They are the few who have the ambition and will power to develop themselves. You can do it. Think black belt.”
