Our Greatest Glory
THIS LITTLE PIECE OF BOK FU PHILOSOPHY REMINDS US THAT THE ONLY TIME WE FAIL IS THE TIME THAT WE DO NOT TRY. GREAT PERSEVERANCE IS NECESSARY TO ACHIEVE GREATNESS!
“Every great work, every big accomplishment, has been brought into manifestation through holding to the vision, and often just before the big achievement, comes apparent failure and discouragement. But the black belt goes on.
Before success comes in any man’s or woman’s life, he or she is sure to meet with much temporary defeat and, perhaps, some failure. When defeat overtakes a man or woman, the easiest and most logical thing to do is to quit. That is exactly what the majority of people do. Black belts never give up, for they know that it is just the place and time that the tide will turn.
What we do not see, what most of us never suspect of existing, is the silent but irresistible power which comes to the rescue of those of us who fight on in the face of discouragement. What this power is Brandi, I cannot say. All I know is that it exists and it becomes available only when a man or woman is in that state of mind in which they know exactly what they want and are fully determined not to quit until they find it.
When you get right down to the root of the meaning of the word “succeed,” you find that it simply means to follow through. I think try, try, try, and keep trying is the rule that must be followed to become an expert in anything. If you only knock long enough at the gate, Brandi, you are sure to wake up somebody.
This thing that we call “failure” is not the falling down, but the staying down. Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall. It’s not whether you get knocked down, it’s whether you get up again. So my point is, if you’ve got the guts to stick it out…you’re going to make it.”
