HOME OF BOK FU DO - SYSTEM OF THE WHITE TIGER - EST. 1967
Time to get our minds on track and refocused at the start of this week! here’s a little help from bok fu philosphy…
“Your true black belt attitudes and beliefs will always influence what you experience in life. Your success and greatest achievements will always be in direct relationship to your total black belt mindset. people, what you truly believe in the deepest part of your soul is what you will become.
I hope you will come to see that this black belt master’s mindset is crucial in every aspect of your life both in the school and out. Your beliefs are really self-imposed limits that as black belts must be examined and then transcended to become a master. Remember one of my favorite sayings: “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re going to be absolutely right.” Think about it.
You see people, self observation, and that’s what black belt masters have, brings a person to the realization of the necessity of self-change. And in observing themselves as an individual he or she will notice that self-observation itself brings about certain changes in their inner processes. they begin to understand that self-observation is an instrument of self-change, a means of awakening and thinking like a black belt master. at that point i think you really face the fact of being what you are, and in my opinion that gives you the power to change what you are, if you don’t like what you see. what you’re really doing, i guess, is simply giving the person you’d like to be a look at the person you are. and once a person says, “this is who i really am, what i am all about, what i am really meant to do,” it is easier to decide how to spend one’s time. and to me it means having a very positive person teaching for you and spending his or her time at the school being an example if this whole thought process. people that are putting their all into being the best they can be is the type of students we need helping us build the bok-fu-do system.
Remember that the one quality of a black belt that your students must possess to become a black belt is simply to be definite in their purpose, having the knowledge of what they want, and a truly burning desire to possess it.
You see people, in my mind; the indispensable first step to getting the things you want out of life is to decide what you really want out of life and to simply go for it. let me put it another way. i personally think that the best definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over again even though they don’t work. what i’m trying to get across to you in these writing efforts are things that i know will work for you every time and all the time. so stop doing what doesn’t work and start doing what does or you will never become the success that as one of my people you were meant to be.
you know people, everything has a price. whatever we want in life, we must give up something to get it. the greater the value, the greater the sacrifice required. there is a high price to pay for the kind of black belt success i want for you, and i tell you the rewards of this black belt success are really well worth the effort. the highway to success is really a toll road. the black belt master knows that success in martial arts is the child of drudgery and perseverance. you all learned that in getting your black belts. it cannot be coaxed or bribed: simply pay the price in effort and energy, and it is yours. simple isn’t it?
the black belt knows luck gives nothing to a man without labor, right? labor is still, and forever will be, the inevitable price set upon everything which is valuable. work is an “open sesame” of every door, the great equalizer in the world, the true philosopher’s stone which transmutes all the base metal of humanity into gold. we are all, simply in this life, what we know and learn. we can be no more or less.
everything you want in life will always have a price connected to it. there is a price to pay if you want to earn a black belt, a price to pay if you did not study at all. simply a price for everything you do or don’t do.
why aren’t there more black belts in this system? most people are simply unwilling to pay the price to make the exertion and effort, to sacrifice their ease and comfort. there are those who will, people, and those who won’t and because you are reading this now you were one of the few who did or will.
there is no lasting victory at bargain basement prices. i hear even black belts sometimes talk as if victory and success were something fortunate. work is victory people, hard work well executed, equals success to me.
this i do know beyond any reasonable doubt as a master. regardless of what you are doing, if you will pump long enough, hard enough, and enthusiastically enough, sooner or later the effort will bring forth the reward. i need your help. i want your help in building this system. let’s do it together now! turn your attitude of “i think i can!” into the bok-fu attitude of “i know i can” and you are thinking like a true bok-fu master. the one thing that really matters to me, people, is that i always have your best effort! you will always have mine.”
