Anna Liu began her martial arts studies in 2000 and received her black belt in 2005. She currently holds the rank of 1st degree black belt in the Bok-Fu-Do system. After graduating from Cornell University in with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Ms. Liu made her way back to the Bay Area. In 2012 she commuted from the South Bay to East West each week to train in the hopes of earning a spot on the US National Lei Tai Team. Not only did she make the team, but she went on to win the World Championships in Malaysia later that year. She then defended her title at the 5th TWKSF World Kuo Shu Tournament in Argentina, 2015, becoming a two-time world champion.

Some words from Ms. Liu:

“I began my study in martial arts at East West at the age of 14. The positive influence of my teachers and fellow students during that critical period of my life played a very dramatic part in shaping who I am today. There is no question in my mind that without going through and completing the process of getting my black belt, my approach to life now would be very different. Although the physical discipline required by the Bok Fu Do system is significant, the teachers and role models I have had at East West have taught me how to be emotionally and mentally disciplined as well. It is not often that one can say he or she has truly found a family amongst a group of unrelated people, but I am honored to call my fellow Bok Fu Do practitioners, my brothers and my sisters.”
