BOK FU NEWS • JULY 2010

Determination is the July word of the month.

Determination, or more specifically self-determination, is the free choice of one’s own acts without external compulsion. Bok Fu Do teaches us that with determination we can use our mind to focus on an endeavor that most others would consider impossible in order achieve our greatest dreams. This month, many of our students will be traveling across the United States to compete against some of the best Kung Fu artists in the world. Our athletes are determined to do their best in order to represent the system of Bok Fu Do; and in doing so will make great sacrifices and work harder than they ever have before. Whether its the next belt rank or any other great goal, let’s all join them in this valiant effort and be determined to achieve something great this month!

New Belt Material – Fighting Sets

In keeping with our quest to be the most well rounded system of Martial Arts, we are introducing Fighting Sets to our curriculum.

Those students in our Jr. Dragon and Adult programs who are ranks Orange and up will have these sets added to their Technical Advancement Material. These sets have been created by our Black Belt team and are important tool that will emphasize control, range, timing, accuracy and reality. We will be providing protective arm gear, but if you care to purchase your own you can click here:

TIGER TAILS RUNNING GROUP

Whether you want to get into running, or are trying to get back into the running routine, this group is for you!

The goal of this running group is not to compete, but to have fun and socializie while running in groups or pair as well as to improve cardiovascular fitness.
Our running get together will concentrate on increasing our running distance, not increasing ones speed - although that may be a positive side affect of our regular runs!

Tuesday Runs:

Iron Horse Trail  - Meet at SR school every Tuesday at 6pm.
Stretch and walk to the Iron Horse Trail on Crow Canyon.
These runs are typically short distance and at your own pace, and include a variety of long interval, fartlek, tempo, hills and other fun stuff.

Sunday Runs:

Weekend runs are held on Sundays at 7:30 AM at various locations (announced weekly.)
Runs are typically 3, 5, 6, 8 or 10 miles, with varying degrees of hilliness.

Disclaimer: Anyone with serious medical conditions such as history of heart problems must exercise under the direct supervision of his/her physician.

FOURTH OF JULY PARADE

The Danville 4th of July parade has been a fabulous East West tradition for many years. Each year, a team of students, instructors, and Black Belts march in the parade. It is a wonderful and fun-filled experience and a great way to enjoy the parade first hand and to perform your favorite martial arts techniques, self defense techniques, forms, or weapons for a cheering crowd. If you are the parent of a student and would like to accompany your child along the parade route, we also have some volunteer opportunities available. We would love you to join us in the holiday tradition.

Everyone is welcome to participate regardless of belt rank. We will have an informational meeting and practice on Friday June 25th at 6pm at the Alamo school. If you have questions prior to that meeting please feel free to contact Mrs. Silverman at KSilverman@Bokfudo.com.

Happy Summer!!!
