Congratulations Richard Lee's West Coast Team!

Congratulations Richard Lee's West Coast Team!

What an incredible weekend! Grandmaster Richard Lee’s West Coast Team had a fantastic showing at the US International Kuoshu Championships in Baltimore and won the Wang Cheuh-Jen Grand Championship trophy for an unprecedented 11th year in a row! There were so many exciting moments this weekend, that it would be nearly impossible to recap them all. However, probably the most significant took place on Sunday evening at the banquet following the tournament. Master Buckley was inducted into the extremely prestigious USKSF Hall of Fame. I know I speak for all of us that were present when I say that it was an incredibly moving acceptance speech and we were all so proud to be able to call Master Buckley our teacher!

Thank you to everyone that took part in this tournament. Whether you competed, came as a spectator, were sending positive chi from home, or a staff member that helped support the team with coverage while we were away, THANK YOU for your efforts!

What was your favorite memory from the weekend? Please post to comments.

Here are some pictures from the weekend. If you took pictures (I know there were a lot of you), please bring the pictures on a disk to the Alamo school ASAP! We’re excited to get the gallery up on our website.

  1. Laura

Best fight: Lee vs. Stamm–demonstrated best technique/Dominguez vs. Schuetz a close second
Best sportsmanship: Stuart Moore helping up lei tai competitor after falling on him
Best effort with outrageous odds: Student (Jake ?) from Calvin Chin’s school continuing his sword form even though his kung fu pants had fallen around his ankles–ended in standing ovation, but lost division due to deduction for failure of equipment
Best win: Mrs. Silverman over M. Nakano
Scariest giant spider: The one on Mr. Cusak’s back during the Masters’ Demo that Ms. Campbell said not to kill
Worst Moment as a mom: Watching my son get technically knocked out–at least I didn’t run up to hug him
Favorite Moment: When my son, Jake, after six years of competing with kung fu buddy and partner, Zach Chen, finally beat Zach in not one, but two events. I know we should have no ego in this, but year after year they would tie, high lows would be added back in, and then Zach would win the gold, with Jake taking second. That cycle was broken this year, although it happened with Jake and Jamey Roland in an event.
